As a former Marine Corps Aviator and U.S Naval Academy varsity football athlete, I take fitness and my role as a CrossFit coach very seriously. I enjoy motivating individuals of all levels of physical fitness to achieve or exceed their personal strength and conditioning goals. I consistently challenge all CrossFit Laguna Niguel athletes to push themselves hard daily in pursuit of excellence and find it incredibly rewarding to witness the transformation of ordinary individuals into extraordinary athletes!

Phil has been Crossfitting since 2007 and has witnessed the growth of CrossFit from a small athletic community to a global phenomenon. He still believes that CrossFit is the best way to develop a foundation of fitness that will invariably promote a healthier and happier lifestyle. He is Level 1 certified instructor and has gone on to attend numerous other certifications to gain a deeper understanding of the methodologies that compose the foundation of CrossFit. He understands that "fitness" is comprised of many components and has even spent time studying yoga to became a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200). What's important though is that he is not afraid to explore every facet of fitness and health so that he can share what he has learned with you. The bottom line is that Phil doesn't take himself very seriously, but he seriously cares about your fitness and health.

Being obese at an early age and overweight most of my life, health and fitness was never my strong suit. I would go to the gym regularly, but never achieved the results that I wanted. The time came that I decided to make my own personal health and fitness a priority in my life. I went on to receive a diploma of Personal Training from the National Personal Trainer Institute (NPTI), as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer Certification (NSCA-CPT), and AFAA Group Fitness Instructor Certification. It was during this time that I was introduced to CrossFit and instantly fell in love. I have been CrossFitting since early 2011, and love it now more than ever. CrossFit has improved every facet of my life with benefits extending physical, mental, emotion, and more. It is because of the benefits CrossFit provides that motivates me to coach/prepare athletes for success, both in and out of the box.
I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Marital and Family Therapy and use my training in these areas to help people achieve their fitness goals. I believe that as we train our brain, our body will follow. I have learned that in life, it is never a matter of “if” we can do something, only a matter of “when.” Through consistent action and total belief in ourselves anything is possible!
